VITEEE

Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination

Admission to B.Tech programmes across the four VIT campuses — Vellore, Chennai, VIT-AP (Amaravati) and VIT Bhopal — one of India's largest private engineering university systems.

Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (or Biology, for bioengineering streams) with at least 60% aggregate in PCM/PCB (50% for SC/ST candidates and those from Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and the North-East). For the 2027 cycle, candidates should have been born on or after 1 July 2005 (the date-of-birth cut-off advances one year each cycle). NRI and foreign candidates may also apply.

Age limit: Born on or after 1 July 2005 for the 2027 cycle (cut-off moves forward one year each cycle).

Exam pattern

Computer-Based Test (CBT) of 2 hours 30 minutes with 125 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs): Mathematics/Biology 40, Physics 35, Chemistry 35, Aptitude 10 and English 5. Each correct answer earns +1 and there is no negative marking. Candidates book their own exam slot (date and time) in advance, and the exam runs in multiple sessions over about a week with normalised ranking.

Syllabus at a glance

Class 11–12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology at state-board/CBSE level, plus a short aptitude section (data interpretation, puzzles) and basic English grammar/comprehension. Difficulty is moderate — below JEE Main — with an emphasis on direct formula application.

Standard books

  • NCERT Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (Class 11 & 12)
  • Target VITEEE — Disha Experts
  • Concepts of Physics Vol 1 & 2 — H.C. Verma
  • Objective Mathematics — R.D. Sharma
  • Handbook of Physics/Chemistry formulae — Arihant (for rapid revision)

How toppers play it

  • With no negative marking, answer all 125 questions — leave nothing blank, and mark quick provisional answers before revisiting.
  • Mathematics carries 40 of 125 questions and effectively decides the rank for engineering aspirants — give it the largest share of practice time.
  • Book your slot the moment booking opens: early slots in your preferred city and time of day go fast, and a comfortable slot genuinely helps performance.
  • Don't ignore the 15 aptitude + English marks; they are trivial with a week of practice and separate you from equal-PCM scorers.
  • Popular branches at Vellore and Chennai (CSE and its specialisations) close within the first few thousand ranks — decide your branch-versus-campus priority before counselling and pay the counselling fee rounds on time.
