SAT
Undergraduate (Bachelor's) admission to universities in the USA and elsewhere; in India it is also accepted by many private universities for direct admission and scholarships. Some US universities have reinstated mandatory testing, so a strong SAT again matters.
Eligibility
There is no age, class or attempt restriction — most Indian aspirants sit it in Class 11 or 12. A valid passport is the required identification at Indian centres. Scores are typically used within the admission cycle but remain reportable for five years.
Age limit: None
Exam pattern
Fully digital and module-adaptive, taken on the Bluebook app at an authorised centre, lasting 2 hours 14 minutes. Two sections: Reading and Writing (two 32-minute modules, 54 questions) and Math (two 35-minute modules, 44 questions). Your first-module performance decides whether the second module is the harder, higher-ceiling one. All questions are single answer with no negative marking; the built-in Desmos graphing calculator is allowed throughout Math. Scored 400–1600 (200–800 per section), with results in about two weeks or less.
Syllabus at a glance
Reading and Writing uses short passages, each with one question, covering craft and structure, information and ideas, standard English conventions and expression of ideas. Math covers algebra (the heart of the test), advanced maths (quadratics, functions), problem-solving and data analysis, and geometry/trigonometry. Content maps roughly to Indian Class 9–10 maths plus strong reading skills.

How toppers play it
- Module 1 accuracy decides whether you see the harder Module 2 — top scores are only reachable via the hard second module, so do not save effort for later.
- There is no negative marking: answer everything, and flag-and-return within a module rather than stalling.
- Learn Desmos deeply — many Math questions (systems, quadratics, medians) fall in seconds by graphing instead of algebra.
- Indian centres fill 8–10 weeks before autumn dates; register the day booking opens for your chosen date.
- Most US universities superscore, so plan two attempts (say August and October of Class 12) and exhaust all six official Bluebook practice tests under timed conditions between them.
