CUET-UG

Common University Entrance Test (Undergraduate)

Single-window entrance for undergraduate admission to over 280 universities — including Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University — plus many state, deemed and private universities.

Eligibility

Anyone who has passed or is appearing in Class 12 may sit the test; there is no age limit from NTA's side. Subject combinations and minimum marks are set by each university for its own programmes, so candidates must check the target university's rules before choosing test subjects.

Age limit: No age limit

Exam pattern

Fully Computer-Based Test (CBT) run over multiple days and shifts with score normalisation. Candidates pick up to five subjects from 37 on offer — 13 languages, 23 domain subjects and one General Aptitude Test. Every paper is 60 minutes with 50 compulsory multiple-choice questions, marked +5 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one (250 marks per subject).

Syllabus at a glance

Domain subjects follow the NCERT Class 12 syllabus. Language papers test reading comprehension, vocabulary and usage. The General Aptitude Test covers general knowledge and current affairs, numerical ability, quantitative reasoning and logical/analytical reasoning.

How toppers play it

  • Pick your five test subjects backwards from the programme mappings of your target universities — a high score in the wrong subject combination is worthless.
  • The syllabus is NCERT Class 12; master the textbooks line by line before touching any guidebook, because questions are frequently lifted straight from NCERT.
  • All 50 questions per paper are compulsory (no internal choice since 2025), so you cannot skip low-priority chapters.
  • At +5/−1, wrong answers are cheap relative to correct ones — attempt whenever you can eliminate even one option, but never at pure random.
  • Practise on the NTA mock platform to get fluent with the CBT interface and the tight 60-minute-per-subject clock; scores are normalised across shifts, so focus on percentile-style consistency.
