CUET-UG

Common University Entrance Test (Undergraduate)

Admission to UG programmes at all central universities (DU, BHU, JNU, AMU, Jamia and others) and many state, deemed and private universities that accept CUET scores.

Eligibility

Class 12 passed or appearing; there is no age limit for appearing. Each university sets its own programme-specific eligibility (subject combinations, minimum marks), and candidates must also meet those.

Exam pattern

Computer-based test held in multiple shifts over about three weeks. Candidates choose up to 5 subjects from 37 papers (13 languages, 23 domain subjects and a General Aptitude Test). Each paper has 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes, with +5 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one. Domain papers follow the Class 12 NCERT syllabus. Scores are normalised across shifts as percentiles.

Syllabus at a glance

Language papers test reading comprehension (factual, literary and narrative passages), vocabulary and grammar. Domain subjects such as Physics, Accountancy, History and Political Science follow the NCERT Class 12 syllabus closely. The General Aptitude Test covers general knowledge, current affairs, general mental ability, numerical ability, quantitative reasoning and logical/analytical reasoning.

How toppers play it

Choose subjects backwards from target programmes. Check the subject-mapping rules of DU, BHU and other universities before registering, because a wrong combination can make you ineligible.
All 50 questions are now compulsory at +5/−1, so accuracy matters more than attempts. A wrong guess costs 6 marks relative to a correct one, so guess only after eliminating two options.
Revise NCERT Class 12 line by line for domain papers, including in-text boxes and examples. Many questions are lifted almost verbatim.
Schedule board-exam revision and CUET together, since the domain syllabus overlaps. Shift to timed 60-minute papers from April onwards.
Many programmes take the General Aptitude Test only as an optional fifth subject. Take it only if a target course requires it.
