COMEDK UGET
Admission to B.E./B.Tech programmes in around 190 private engineering colleges in Karnataka, including RV College of Engineering, BMS College of Engineering and MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology. Open to candidates from every state.
Eligibility
Pass in Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Computer Science/Electronics, with at least 45% aggregate in PCM (40% for reserved-category Karnataka candidates). There is no age limit, and candidates from all states may apply on equal footing for general-merit seats.
Age limit: No age limit.
Exam pattern
Computer-Based Test (CBT) of 3 hours with 180 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) — 60 each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each correct answer earns +1 and there is no negative marking, for a total of 180 marks. Difficulty sits at NCERT/board level, clearly easier than JEE Main, which makes speed and accuracy decisive. Ties are broken by fewer wrong answers, then subject-wise scores.
Syllabus at a glance
Class 11–12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics based on the CBSE/state board syllabus — essentially the JEE Main topic list at board-exam depth, with a reputation for lengthy calculation-based physics and straightforward NCERT chemistry.

How toppers play it
- There is no negative marking, so never leave a blank — but remember ties are broken by fewer wrong answers, so answer methodically and keep pure guesses for the final minutes.
- Budget one minute per question: 180 questions in 180 minutes rewards two fast passes (sure answers first, then the rest) over lingering on any single problem.
- COMEDK physics is calculation-heavy — drill mental arithmetic and standard-value substitutions, since no calculator is available.
- If you are preparing for JEE Main, you need no separate syllabus work — just take COMEDK-format 180-question mocks to adjust to the easier, faster paper.
- Research college-wise closing ranks before counselling; the top Bengaluru colleges (RVCE, BMSCE, MSRIT) close within the first few thousand ranks for CSE.
