COMEDK UGET

Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka — Undergraduate Entrance Test

Admission to B.E./B.Tech seats in around 190 private engineering colleges in Karnataka (including RV, BMS, MS Ramaiah, Dayananda Sagar and PES-affiliated institutes) — open to students from every state.

Eligibility

Pass in Class 12 or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Electronics/Computer Science, with at least 45% aggregate in the qualifying trio (40% for SC/ST/OBC of Karnataka) and a pass in English. Candidates appearing in the current year's board exam may also apply. There is no age limit, and candidates from all Indian states are eligible.

Age limit: No age limit

Exam pattern

Computer-based test of 3 hours with 180 multiple-choice questions — 60 each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each correct answer earns +1 and there is no negative marking, so full attempts are always optimal. Difficulty is moderate, generally easier than JEE Main but with tight time per question. Ranks feed into COMEDK's centralised online counselling for member colleges; ties are broken by fewer wrong answers, then subject-wise scores.

Syllabus at a glance

Class 11-12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics broadly matching the CBSE/NCERT and Karnataka pre-university syllabus. Mathematics and Physics carry the deciding weight; Chemistry is largely NCERT-direct with a mix of physical, organic and inorganic questions.

Standard books

  • NCERT Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (Class 11 & 12)
  • COMEDK UGET Prep Guide — Arihant Experts
  • Objective Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics for engineering entrances — MTG Editorial Board
  • Concepts of Physics — H. C. Verma (for stronger problem practice)
  • Previous years' COMEDK solved papers (chapterwise compilations)

How toppers play it

  • There is no negative marking — never leave any of the 180 questions blank; budget the last five minutes to fill every remaining bubble.
  • One minute per question is the real constraint: practise 60-question subject sprints in 55 minutes to bank buffer time.
  • Ties are broken by fewer wrong answers, so accuracy still matters at the top — guess late, not early.
  • The paper is more formula-recall than derivation; maintain a formula sheet for Physics and revise NCERT Chemistry tables (polymers, biomolecules, d-block) which appear disproportionately.
  • Take COMEDK's own official mock (released around March) — the interface quirks and question tone differ from JEE-style mocks.
