Agniveer (Army / Navy / Air Force)

Agnipath Scheme Recruitment — Agniveer (Army), Agniveer (Navy SSR/MR) and Agniveervayu (Air Force)

Four-year enrolment in the other ranks of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force under the Agnipath scheme; up to 25% of each batch is retained in the regular cadre after four years, and the rest exit with a Seva Nidhi package of about ₹11.7 lakh.

Eligibility

Unmarried men and women, roughly 17.5–22 years depending on service and cycle: the Air Force raised the Agniveervayu upper limit to about 22 from its 2026 cycles (intake 02/2027 accepts those born 1 Jul 2005 – 1 Jan 2010), Navy's 2027-batch date-of-birth windows also extend to about 22, while the Army's CEE 2026 kept 17.5–21 for core categories. Educational requirements vary by entry: Army Agniveer General Duty (GD) needs Class 10 (45% aggregate); Army Technical, Navy Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR) and Air Force science-stream entries need Class 12 with Physics and Maths (typically 50%); Navy Matric Recruit (MR) needs Class 10; Air Force non-science entry needs Class 12 in any stream (50%). Each service publishes its own physical and medical standards.

Age limit: 17.5–21 years (Army core entries); recent IAF Agniveervayu and Navy SSR/MR cycles extend the upper bound to about 22 — check the exact date-of-birth window in each notification

Exam pattern

All three services begin with an online computer-based test, followed by physical fitness tests, medicals and document verification. Army: CEE first (e.g. GD paper — 50 questions, 100 marks, 1 hour; +2 per correct, −0.5 per wrong), then recruitment rally (1.6 km run, pull-ups, etc.). Navy: Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET)-pattern CBT with Science, Mathematics, English and GK/Reasoning sections, then Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and medicals, with training at INS Chilka. Air Force (Agniveervayu): online test — English, Physics and Maths for the science stream; English plus Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA) for others — then PFT, adaptability tests and medicals. Final merit combines test performance and, for the Army, bonus marks (NCC certificates, ITI, board percentage).

Syllabus at a glance

GD/MR-level papers test Class 10 mathematics, general science, GK and logical reasoning. Technical, SSR and Agniveervayu science papers are Class 12 Physics and Mathematics with English. English sections test basic grammar, vocabulary and comprehension; GK covers current affairs, sports, awards, geography and defence-related facts.

How toppers play it

  • Pick the entry your marksheet actually qualifies for before you prepare: GD/Tradesman/MR papers are Class 10 level, while Technical, Clerk, Navy SSR and Agniveervayu science papers are Class 12 PCM level — the syllabi barely overlap.
  • Physical tests are eliminatory, not merit-padding: build to a 1.6 km run in under 5:30 (Army Group I) and 10+ pull-ups months before the rally, in parallel with written prep.
  • All three services deduct roughly 25% of a question's marks per wrong answer — leave true guesses blank, especially in the short 50-question Army CEE where each question is 2% of the paper.
  • Claim every bonus you are entitled to (NCC A/B/C certificates, ITI qualification, board-percentage weightage in the Army merit) — bonuses of 5–20 marks routinely decide rally merit lists.
  • Keep originals and photocopies of domicile, education, caste and NCC certificates rally-ready; document verification rejects a significant share of otherwise-qualified candidates.
